Orford General Store

OPENING TIMES

We are delighted to announce that, with the arrival of the lighter evenings, we will be extending our opening hours once again, on a Tuesday and Wednesday back to 5.00pm. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused over the last few months, but it was, sadly, a financial necessity, due to limited custom during these hours, in the dark winter months.

Full opening hours for the shop and Post Office follow, and remember you can always keep up to date, by logging onto our website- www.orfordgeneralstore.co.uk

For all you green-fingered gardening enthusiasts, our selection of perennial and bedding plants, will now begin to increase, and as more plants become garden-ready, the nursery will be sending them onto us. Current stocks include foxgloves, hollyhocks, anemone, snake's-head fritillary, saxifrage, anemones, primroses and sweet peas.

A message from Orford General Store:

It is with extreme concern that we are writing this post, but due to the rise in coronavirus cases in our area, (31 new cases in the 7 days to 23rd December, Orford, Hollesley & Rendlesham,) we feel it is necessary to remind our customers of our requirements should you wish to shop with us.

1) WEAR A MASK. Five people tried to walk in on one day without one, two more holding flimsy tissues up to their mouths, and four with woollen scarfs draped around faces. The government requirement for a face covering, is minimum two layers, secure, i.e., if a scarf TIED on. MUST COVER NOSE & MOUTH MANDATORY.

2) PUT YOUR MASK ON THEN SANITISE YOUR HANDS. WINTER GLOVES MUST BE REMOVED AND HANDS SANITISED, GLOVES LEFT OFF.

3) TAKE ONE OF OUR SANITISED BASKETS FOR YOUR SHOPPING, DO NOT USE YOUR OWN BAGS. THEN SELECT ANY FRUIT & VEGETABLES ETC., BEFORE ENTERING SHOP.

4) SELECT YOUR OTHER SHOPPING INSTORE AND, WHEN FINISHED, PLEASE APPROACH COUNTER, WHERE A MEMBER OF OUR PERSONNEL WILL ATTEND TO YOU. PLEASE PAY WITH CARD, CONTACTLESS WHERE POSSIBLE.

IF YOU HAVE FACIAL RECOGNITION ON YOUR PHONE, FOR CARD/CONTACTLESS PAYMENT, PLEASE STEP OUTSIDE THE SHOP, BEFORE REMOVING YOUR MASK, OR CONSIDER REPLACING FACIAL RECOGNITION WITH A PIN CODE, FOR YOUR OWN, AND OTHER RETAIL PERSONNEL’S SAFETY!

We do not enjoy enforcing these rules, but we are now in a difficult situation. Serving and keeping our community safe is of paramount importance to us, but we can only do this if everyone assists us. In addition, every single member of our personnel is either high-risk or resides with an immediate family member who is high-risk, so understandably our staff are very concerned. We also fear, that should just one of our staff contract this dreadful virus, we will be forced to close, for a minimum of ten days, letting down those who rely upon us most, for home deliveries etc.

Please, please help us to protect our community, customers, friends, and personnel.

Stay safe

Sue Cox
