New members very welcome

Orford & District Gardening Club meets on the first Thursday of each month (with the exception of July and August) in Orford Town Hall.

Do join us.

Non-members are always welcome to attend individual meetings or events to suit their interests.


The Club involves:

• Regular well informed speakers on a wide range of topics and interests

• Seasonal visits to gardens and other places

• A summer Garden Party at a local garden

• Discount seed orders

• Plant and seed sales at events and from speakers

• Social events

• Affiliation to the RHS including The Garden magazine for sharing

• Annual subscription only £15 or £5 per meeting

2022 Programme

First Thursday in the month at 7.30 pm in the Town Hall Main Room unless otherwise stated

3rd February – Amy Fellows on Marianne North (Kew Gardens) Victorian plantswoman and prolific artist – an exhibition about her Arts Council Project with drinks and nibbles and a short talk

Wednesday 16th February 2 pm Snowdrop garden visit to The Gables plus tea, cake and plants for sale – car sharing trip

3rd March – Neill Ludmon - ‘Vertical Planting – wall shrubs, climbers and green walls’

7th April – Anna Greenland Ex Head Gardener for Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quatre Saisons – ‘Eating your way to good health’ How to grow vegetables organically and choosing the best varieties for flavour. Also selling her new book ‘Grow Easy’

5th May – ‘Butterflies – What to look for and plant in our plots and how butterflies play an important role in our gardens and in the wild’ - Peter Maddison Chair of Suffolk Branch of National Butterfly Conservation Society

9th June – Afternoon (2.30 pm) Garden Party in a delightful local garden plus a ‘bring and buy’ of plants and produce

Tuesday 5th July – Car sharing trip to Fullers Mill near Bury St Edmund with talk about the garden, tour picnics, teas and cakes and plants for sale

27th August – Orford and Gedgrave Flower Show Stall

8th September – ‘My family and other Irises’ - Lucy Skellorn owner of a National Collection of Irises bred by her great, great Grandfather Sir Michael Foster. Working at Benton End near Hadleigh - home of plantsman and artist Cedric Morris and his ‘Benton Irises’

6th October – ‘Plants for the Dry garden’ - Matt Tanton-Brown – As our summers get drier he will cover plants suited to this change in climate. Also some of the trickier areas of our gardens

3rd November – ‘Autumn trees for our area and dealing with Honey Fungus’ - tbc

1st December – AGM and Social Supper

We are delighted that so many of our community have joined our club despite what is going on in the world and we intend to proceed with our plans if at all possible. Welcome to you all …

We also hope to make up for anything we have missed and possibly have some spontaneous events.
